About Us

With the establishment of All India Federation of Voluntary Organizations (AIFO) in 2006, January, the long-felt need of having a mother-NGO on All India basis has been fulfilled much to the satisfaction of all. The very purpose of this Mother NGO can be understood when we glance at its aims and objectives.
During this year since inception, we have strived hard and worked hand in hand with the NGOs both rural and urban-based to fulfil its aims and objectives.
The faster development is required to bridge the divide between rural and urban India. Here comes the role of NGOs, civic bodies and voluntary organizations in fulfilling the commitment of the sustainable development of rural areas with a focus on enhancing the livelihood of weaker and vulnerable sections.
As a result of Globalisation, we are witnessing strengthening of NGO networks, with voluntary organizations emerging as strong advocates influencing policies of governments and working as pressure groups, developing new approaches and making inroads into hitherto untreaded sectors like employment generation, marketing of services. The challenges posed by globalization include a shift from care and welfare to change and development, from leisure to squeeze in time, from non-market activities to market-oriented development, etc. All this poses challenges that make voluntary organizations look as professionally managed enterprises rather than charitable or welfare organizations.
We need to make concerted efforts to encourage organized volunteerism and look at young people as agents of change and develop their capacity.
This Souvenir seeks to encapsulate the spirit of volunteerism so that it becomes a powerful tool for creation of a better world. This spirit was so beautifully expressed by Gandhiji in the following words:-

Voluntary service of others demands the best of which one is capable, and must take precedence of service over self…….  I shall pass through this world but once.  Any good, therefore, that I can do to any living being, let me do it now.”

The task is daunting, but the resolve of the AIFO to succeed is even greater. Our rigorous endeavours shall continue so as to fulfill the expectations of the people as well as NGOs all over the country facilitating the capacity building of NGOs, support services to policy formulations etc. Holding of the national seminar on 4th November, 2006 is one of such endeavours to discuss various issues relating to ‘Social Amenities for Rural Development’ with a view to find out ways and means to minimize the regional imbalance in rural development in the country.
I would like to take this opportunity to urge upon all the NGOs, civic bodies, voluntary organizations spread all over the country to strengthen the hands of All India Federation of Voluntary Organizations in its resolve to improve the quality of life in the country.
